Placemaking Through Community

This project was one that came about because of two real game-changers out there in the world. Blogger, writer, photographer, entrepreneur, and champion for art and artists, Kristin Luna along with her equally amazing husband and business partner, Scott van Velsor, invited me to paint a mural in Manchester TN. They co-own Odinn Media, a media production agency specializing in tourism marketing; DMA-events, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit devoted to creative placemaking through community events and the installation of murals

They also created Walls for Women – a mural project spanning across Tennessee in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Women’s Suffrage. These two spearheaded the mural in collaboration with the Manchester Parks and Recreation.

The Process

This mural is one of the smaller pieces I’ve painted in the last 6 years, but there was something really sweet about it. Partly because I got to spend a lot of time with Scott and Kristin. But also because it was filled with passion and enthusiasm.
