Docs Healing Hives

Morganton, Georgia

The Location

Muralist Matt Willey brought his celebrated The Good of the Hive project to Doc’s Healing Hives, the veteran-founded nonprofit in Morganton, Georgia dedicated to helping veterans heal and reintegrate through beekeeping. Each brushstroke of the mural he created in the training center stands as a permanent symbol of hope, reminding veterans they are never alone — a meaningful addition from an artist whose work has graced the Smithsonian and the U.S. Embassy in Beijing.

Why Honey Bees?

The project is part of Willey’s global commitment to hand-paint 50,000 honeybees — the number found in a healthy, thriving hive — in murals around the world, with the hive serving as a metaphor for human connection regardless of background. His visit coincided with a historic milestone for Doc’s Healing Hives: the organization’s first all-female veteran beekeeping class, a powerful testament to the program’s growing reach and its mission to serve every veteran who needs a path toward peace and purpose.
